Mitchell Map of 1755

John Mitchell was from Virginia and educated in Scotland as a doctor. He moved to London in 1746 and used his interest in botany to work for wealthy patrons. With no experience in map-making, he put together a map in 1750 which he showed to his clients. After they provided more data, he up-dated the map in 1755. The map was used to settle disputes as late as the 1980s.
